A native of Brooklyn, NY, Kristen brings a dancer's perspective to Pilates. She pursued her passion for dance at a very young age and received a BFA from SUNY Purchase. She was inspired by Pilates when she discovered its endless benefits, managed her sciatica and transformed her body. She believes consistency and positivity in your Pilates practice allows for both mental and physical benefits. Her knowledge of the body and movement brings precision and creativity to her practice. Kristen focuses to help others obtain a healthier, stronger and happier body.
Pilates & Yoga Instructor
Sky is a classically trained Pilates Instructor, as well as an Ishta Yoga Instructor. She holds over 1000 hours of certifications from Core Pilates NYC and Ishta Yoga NYC. Sky's style of teaching is inspired by creating space for students to safely develop mental and physical connection to their bodies that they can take with them into their everyday lives. Sky has a wide breadth of experience working with beginner, intermediate and advanced clients looking to develop their Pilates, yoga or meditation practice, students who are working with injuries, pre/postnatal women, as well as students with weight loss, strength training and flexibility goal. In her class you can expect an awesome/ eclectic playlist, and a physically challenging full body workout that is very conscious of breath, posture and alignment.
Meet Erin - she is always up for a good challenge. Pilates is interminably challenging in its demand of both physical and mental discipline, and Erin's appreciation for the method stems from this inherent duality. Her practice began here at Plank Pilates, after having moved to New York to study Architecture in 2008. She quickly discovered the benefits Pilates had to offer within her own body, such as improved posture, alignment, and a strengthened core - but perhaps even more importantly, she recognized the ways in which Pilates reinforced her mind body connection. This connection has enabled Erin to move with control, precision, and intention.
Brooklyn born and bred, Ife developed a passion for health & fitness when looking for an outlet from work and life. Her love of cross-training drove her to deepen her fitness knowledge by attaining her ACE Group Fitness Instructor, Mat Pilates, and TRX Suspension Training certifications. She used this education and understanding of a busy New York life to create “Work Routine”, a 25-minute session that combines Pilates and metabolic resistance training. This blend creates a safe workout that develops strong, toned muscles and increases your metabolism during and after. When Ife’s not working out, marketing things for work, continuing her health & fitness education, or getting people stronger, she is taking a quick break to drink Kombucha and listen to Fetty Wap.
Shauna has made health and fitness an integral part of her life. She received her B.S. in Biology at SUNY Albany and later her Masters in Education at PACE University. She incorporates fitness in her everyday life by practicing dance, running, Pilates, yoga and weight training.Through her own experiences as an athlete, Shauna became acutely aware of proper alignment and core stability. This led her to Pilates and honed her focus on flexibility, strengthening, and engaging the "powerhouse." Certified by Plank Pilates in Summer 2012, she now incorporates Pilates into all her activities and encourages her students to take Pilates off the mat as well.
Catherine Chambers lives in Brooklyn with her dog, Bob Dylan. A former ballerina, actress, and aerialist, her classes are rigorous but always led with a smile. Catherine believes in using the strength built by Pilates to both heal the body and invigorate the spirit. She received her BFA in Poetry from Goddard College in Vermont and has two degrees from clown college on her mother's fridge.
Emily LaHaie grew up figure skating and dancing, with an interest in all things creative. She is comprehensively certified through Core Pilates NYC and has supplemented her Pilates certification with continuing education courses in scoliosis and osteoporosis. Additionally, Emily is certified to teach TRX and pre/post natal clients. She works with a diverse clientele that includes young athletes and clients with injuries. Her extensive movement background has greatly influenced her Pilates teaching and she enjoys the challenge of designing effective, fast paced (but safe) workouts. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art from NYU and a Certificate in French as a Foreign Language form Université Laval. She is currently completing her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Lehman College.
